ROART

The new facade of the Bluenote Jazz club, the three story addition and the floating cantilevered piano owning is coated by black stainless steel.

The black stainless steel becomes dark through a “conversation” process in which the chrome in the stainless steel is involved in a chemical reaction with oxidizers to produces black coating.
The black coating makes the material reflective and change its color and tone reflecting the colors around it and changes of light.

Conceived as a musical score, black stainless steel is used both as a metaphor for Jazz, being the art of improvisation and a reflection of the condition of life, and the black musicians, masters of improvisation, traditionally performing wearing black suits.
