ROART

The spaces of The Kindergarten are operating on two simultaneous scales, one for kids and the other for adults. We created five classrooms around a large social space for adults and used transparency not only to bring light into interior spaces but also as a tool to erase the differences of scale by blurring them. The connection between the classrooms, the library and the central space was achieved through architectural elements such as the lofts, high windows and miniature doors designed from a child’s perspective, resulting in places and moments that only kids can experience, climb into, and pass through. Thus the central space becomes a meeting place that celebrates the everyday life of a kindergarten, and the ritual of dropping off and picking up the children, moments for seeding the growth of a community.
