ROART » U121 Hotel

With its distinct facade, U121Hotel is designed to become a new icon along University Place, on the path connecting Washington Square to Union Square. A vibrant red structure, the building is a reflection of the small traditional red brick buildings and the ever-changing creative and cultural energy of the neighborhood.

The hotel’s main feature is a structural “bris soleil” – red painted steel that takes its color cue from the surrounding buildings and the autumn leaves that transform the neighborhood late in the year. This structure frames the window grid behind, creating a composition that breaks up the mass of the 160-foot tall building, connecting the scale of the typical Village row house to the larger buildings surrounding Union Square.
