Last semester the 2nd year students at Pratt Institute School of Architecture were asked to design a cultural & learning institute at Wave Hill Academy located along the Hudson River in the Bronx.
I asked my students to design an institute for the studies of the wind.
Mark Twain wrote about the wind at Wave Hill;
“I believe we have the noblest roaring blasts here I have ever known on land; they sing their hoarse song through the big tree tops with a splendid energy that thrills me and stirs me and uplifts me and makes me want to live always”
To inspire the students I introduced them to the work of two artists Susumu Shingu and Tim Prentice.
